Frequently Asked Questions
Who Does Pilates?
Anyone and everyone!
What Are The Benefits of Pilates?
Improved strength and flexibility, improved posture, pain reduction, injury prevention, empowerment, more energy and improved happiness to name a few.
What Should I Wear?
Clothes in which you can move-that are comfortable and not overly bulky. Please avoid wearing clothes with zippers as they can tear the vinyl on the equipment.
Do I Need Equipment or Props?
If you are taking virtual lessons, props are highly recommended but not required. You don’t need to have your own Pilates equipment to take lessons but if you have a piece of equipment we will utilize it!
How Many Times Per Week Should I Take Lessons?
This is preferential. Some clients take lessons 1-2 times per week and some 4-5 times per week. The best place to begin is with the Introductory Offer. Visit the “Work With Me” tab for more details.
How Much Will It Cost?
This depends on what type of lessons you take and how often you take them. If you are budget conscious, small group classes or 30 minute virtual privates are great options as they are low cost. Visit the “Work With Me” tab to find out more.
What Should I Expect From My First Few Lessons?
Your very first private lesson is a sneak peak into what Pilates is and how it can help you. We will meet, talk through your intake paperwork, set goals or boundaries based off of your intake and do a little movement. I teach every client the fundamental exercises and give homework sheets of these basic movements so that you can practice at home. Then we get on the equipment. We will do 1-2 exercises on the chair, tower and reformer so that you can feel what each apparatus feels like.
Your second lesson will flow more like a regular private lesson. We will go over the fundamentals and all of the equipment exercises you learned in the first lesson AND we will add on so that you are learning and practicing more challenging movements. We will always link everything back to the basic movement skills you learned in the first lesson so that you start to see how the method of Pilates comes together and your lessons feel cohesive.
Will SOMA Breath Help My Movement Practice?
Yes! It has been scientifically proven that SOMA Breath increases oxygen efficiency, stimulates the production of nitric oxide, increases heart rate variability and increases aerobic capacity…and these are just a few of the benefits! What does this mean? It means that when you exercise, your body will be more adapted to transport oxygen from your blood stream to your tissues making it easier to exercise for long without “getting out of breath.”
What If I’ve Never Done Breathwork Before?
I would be honored to lead you in your first breathwork session! No previous experience is necessary and you are welcomed and valued to come as you are to the group SOMA Breath Meditations.
